Well, if this makes you think alert() you are close enough. Well, this and its siblings (confirm and prompt) are pretty much what is left behind from Netscape 2.0 or so. It’s no exageration to say that this is from the Iron Age or the World Wide Web.
True, modal dialogs have a lot of disadvantages, and should be used with some caution. There are some places when they are the right answer to some design question. And then you shouldn’t be stuck to some outdated tool.
My js.Dialog library attempts a redesign. What shall I say big words - have a look for yourself.
